FAQ
What if I take Misoprostol when I am not pregnant?
If you are taking misoprostol even when you are not pregnant, there won’t be any serious harm to your body. Misoprostol contracts your uterus and expels the pregnancy, but it’s also taken to:
- Induce labor
- Manage miscarriage or postpartum bleeding
- Prevent stomach ulcers
So, even though you have taken misoprostol accidentally or intentionally, your body may still show symptoms like:
- Cramping
- Bleeding like a period
- Nausea, discomfort, and other side effects
However, miscarriage is not possible if you are not pregnant, because there’s nothing to expel. In such a situation, it might feel like a strong period or a slight stomach discomfort, based on your body.
Is it risky?
For most people, even when not pregnant, misoprostol is generally safe. However, refrain from taking it without being pregnant and for no reason, as it’s a strong medication. Misusing or taking it often without any medical need can lead to problems like heavy bleeding or issues with the uterus.
Before taking abortion pills, do a test to know if you are pregnant. If you have already taken it and are feeling sick or uncertain, contact a healthcare provider for support and assistance.
