Texas Leaders Push for Special Session to Crack Down on Abortion Pills by Mail

A group of nearly 100 pro-life advocates, including Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, is calling on Governor Greg Abbott to convene a special session focused on abortion pills sent through the mail. Their demand centers on the proposed “Woman and Child Protection Act,” which aims to strengthen enforcement against anyone involved in providing or distributing abortion pills in the state.

The letter claims that an estimated 20,000 abortion pills enter Texas each month, mostly through online sources and telehealth platforms. If implemented, the proposed law would enable legal action against makers, mailers, and even those who assist others in obtaining the pills. It would also allow prosecutors to file charges and families to sue if issues occurred.

This move comes as Texas continues to enforce one of the most restrictive abortion bans in the country. As more people turn to abortion pills by mail to manage their care privately and safely, the state’s leadership is now targeting this growing method of access.

Governor Abbott has not yet responded to the call for a special session.
